NATIONAL SPECIALIST CONTRACTORS COUNCIL

The DSA are now members of the National Specialist Contractors Council (NSCC). This provides us with representation on a range of organisations in the Construction Industry including CITB, CSCS, JCT etc.

It also provides us with the following services :-

TECHNICAL

Code of Safe Working Practice
Receipt of three free copies of the DSA Code of Safe Working Practice. This provides a comprehensive statement of safe working practices in the Drilling and Sawing Industry. Last revised in August 2006. Further copies can be purchased.

TRAINING/OPERATION ACCREDITATION

As from February 1, 2007 all Training and Accreditation work will be dealt with by DSA Training Ltd - a subsidiary of the DSA. Visit www.dsatraining.co.uk

The DSA has co-operated with the CSCS Scheme Management in the production of a CSCS Card in Drilling & Sawing. The issue of this card is based on the achievement of an NVQ in Drilling & Sawing. This NVQ is now available following development between the DSA and the CITB. Further details of all card arrangements are available from the DSA Training Ltd, including the status of the previous DSA Cards.

Availability of Safety Training Videos in Drilling & Sawing Techniques provided by the American Association.

An Apprenticeship Scheme for Drilling and Sawing Operators has now been developed in conjunction with the CITB. Training places on the scheme are now available.

The DSA and DSA Training Ltd employ a Specialist Training Advisor available who can:-

  • Carry out assessments for NVQ’s
  • Assist with preparation of Training Plans
  • Offer a Health & Safety Advisory Service
  • Help with obtaining CITB grants for these activities

DSA Training Ltd ensures that members are kept informed of information on Card Schemes, NVQ’s, and Training Grants. Members can obtain Training and Accreditation services at preferential rates from the Association.

INSURANCE

Advice on insurance and access to an exclusive scheme tailored to the Drilling and Sawing industry. For further details, members can use the Members Services link.

INFORMATION

The dissemination of information amongst members including Newsletters, Safety Bulletins. Members are also circulated with a copy of minutes of Committee Meetings.

Meetings of members are held on a national and regional basis to discuss issues that are of general importance.

Members have access to a central library of information on safety and other matters.

Our website contains a wealth of information on Drilling and Sawing applications, plus a full list of members by regions.

ADJUDICATION

As part of our membership of the National Specialist Contractors Council (NSCC), our members have access to the Association of Independent Construction Adjudicators (AICA).

This facility gives them the opportunity to obtain a professional adjudication service with the free nomination of an adjudicator.

GENERAL

PUBLICITY

Periodically, an Association Journal “THE CONCRETE CUTTER” is produced and circulated to contractors, professional advisers and other potential clients within the construction industry. This promotes the use of drilling and sawing methods and is issued to around 8000/9000 construction contacts. The Association publicly promotes the skills and experience of members within the construction industry and Members are encouraged to participate in articles in the press.

The DSA is a founder member of the International Association of Concrete Drillers and Sawers, and links are developed with other organisations in the construction and concrete industries both in the UK and overseas.

The Association website contains a wide range of information on drilling and sawing techniques plus a list of all DSA members.

GROUP PURCHASING

The DSA is continually investigating group purchasing arrangements with specific suppliers who can provide members with beneficial terms and conditions.

Currently we have agreements with Speedy Hire and HSS for the supply of Tool Hire to members at special discount rates.   For further details contact the DSA Office.

ENQUIRIES

Enquiries from external companies for drilling and sawing capability are channelled to members on a regional basis.

THE MAIN OBJECTIVES OF THE ASSOCIATION ARE TO PROMOTE THE USE OF CONCRETE CUTTING TECHNIQUES AND TO PROVIDE A RANGE OF PRACTICAL SERVICES TO OUR MEMBERS.
